From September 28th to October 5th 2014, H.E. Mr. Adriano do Nascimento, First Vice President of the National Parliament, the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, visited Japan under the invitation program of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. During his visit to Japan, H.E. Mr. Nascimento had meetings with a number of high level officials, including H.E. Mr. Masaaki YAMAZAKI, the President of the House of Councillors, H.E. Mr. Azuma KOSHIISHI, H.E. Mr. Hirotaka AKAMATSU, the Vice-Speaker of the House of Representatives and H.E. Mr. Minoru KIUCHI, State Minister for Foreign Affairs. He also made visits to several places such as Japanese companies, disaster management facilities in Kobe and Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park.

 

 

September 18, 2014

His Excellency Mr. Eiji Yamamoto, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste presented his letter of credence to His Excellency Mr. Taur Matan Ruak, the President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste at the Presidential Palace on September 18th, 2014.

On September 1, the Government of Japan jointly held a signing ceremony with a Japanese NGO, PARCIC, for the 3rd year project related to improve livelihood of farmers in mountainous areas under the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects.

On August 8, the Government of Japan jointly held a ceremony for the completion of the clean water supply system through the“Bobonaro WASH Improvement though Community Empowerment Project” with World Vision Japan under the Grant Assistance for the Japanese NGOs in Hataz village, Atabae sub-district, following the first ceremony in Leolima village, Balibo sub-district.

July 4, 2014

The Embassy of Japan held the reception for the participants of the Youth Exchange Program (“JENESYS 2.0”) and reporting session. At the ceremony, with the presence of H.E. Mr. Marcal Avelino Ximenes, Vice Minister for Higher Education, and H.E. Ms. Maria Isabel Ximenes, Secretary of State for Art and Culture, the participants of JENESYS shared their experiences and actions plans for the future.

June 23, 2014

On June 20, the award ceremony of the Ambassador’s certificate of commendation was held at the Ambassador’s residence. Dr. Hidehiko KAZAMA, JICA Expert and Chief Advisor for Engineering Education in the National University of Timor-Lorosa’e, and the Faculty of Engineering, Science and Technology were awarded for their long-term dedication and contribution to the development in Timor-Leste as well as outstanding accomplishment for deepening Japan- Timor-Leste bilateral relationship.

May 28, 2014

On May 19th, Ambassador of Japan made a field visit to the site of Grant Aid to support for “Improvement of Coffee Productivity in Ermera District and Liquisa District” in Letefoho Sub-district, Ermera District where the project has been implemented by a Japanese NGO, Peace Winds Japan. The ambassador visited the experimental coffee farm and received an explanation of coffee berries and its processing. Subsequently, he also visited the coffee and shade tree seedling house.

From April 27th to May 2nd 2014, H.E. Mr. Mariano Asanami Sabino, Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, visited Japan. On May 2nd, H.E. Mr. Mariano Asanami Sabino had meetings with high level officials, including H.E. Mr. Seiji KIHARA, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs and H.E. Mr. Yoshimasa HAYASHI, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

May 5, 2014

On 5 May, Parliamentary Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Norio Mitsuya, arrived in Dili for a 2-day official visit. During this visit, Mr. Mitsuya paid courtesy calls on H.E. Mr. Taur Matan Ruak, the President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, H.E. Mr. Xanana Gusmao, Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste and H.E. Mr. Adriano do Nacimento, Acting President of the National Parliament and President of the TL-Japan Parliamentary Friendship League. Prior to his official visit to Timor-Leste, Mr. Mitsuya stopped by Bali, Indonesia where he paid a courtesy call on H.E. Dr. Jose Luis Guterres, Senior Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

Timor-Leste Minister for Tourism, H.E. Mr. Francisco Kalbuadi Lay da Silva, visited Japan from April 3rd to 5th upon the invitation by Japan Football Association. During his time in Japan, Minister encouraged the members of Timor-Leste U-14 team who were also visiting Japan under the JENESYS 2.0, and watched the games.

From 23rd to 29th March 2014, H.E. Mr. Babo Soares, Minister of Justice of Timor-Leste, visited Japan under the invitation program of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. During his visit to Japan, H.E. Mr. Babo Soares had meetings with a number of high level officials, including H.E. Mr. Sadakazu TANIGAKI, Minister of Justice, H.E. Mr. Seiji KIHARA, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Gen NAKATANI, President of Japan Timor-Leste Friendship Parliamentary League, and its members and Mr. Shigeru KIYAMA, Vice President of JICA. He also made visits to many places such as Research and Training Institute of Ministry of Justice, Osaka high and district public prosecutors offices, Tokyo district court, Atomic Bomb related facilities in Hiroshima and Small and Medium Enterprises(SMEs)in Tokyo.

The Embassy of Japan held the send-off ceremony for the participants of the Youth Exchange Program (“JENESYS 2.0”),Japan-ASEAN U-14 Football Exchange Program. At the ceremony, with the presence of H.E. Mr. Lay, Minister for Tourism, the representative of Timor-Leste U-14 team expressed their aspirations to the upcoming exchange program.

February 21, 2014

The Embassy of Japan in Timor-Leste and the Japan Foundation, in cooperation with the Secretariat of State for Youth and Sports and the Timor-Leste Karate Federation, invited Karate experts from Indonesia and held Karate demonstration and workshop to promote the understanding of Japanese culture through Karate at GMT on February 20th and 21st. Prior to the event, the Embassy of Japan held a kick-off reception in the evening of February 19th and H.E. Mr. Adriano do Nacimento, 1st Vice President of the National Parliament, and H.E. Mr. Miguel Manetelo, Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, were among the distinguished guests present. Through this three-day event, Timorese people were presented with great opportunities to learn about the spirit of Japanese martial arts.

4 members of the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Fernando Lasama de Araujo, Vice Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste.Mr. Lasama praised the contributions being made by those young Japanese to the development of Timor-Leste through close cooperation with local communities as well as expressing his hopes for their further success. There are 12 JOCV volunteers currently active in Timor-Leste.

The Embassy of Japan held the send-off ceremony for the participants of two Youth Exchange Program (“JENESYS”), Asia International Children’s Film and Movie Festival and Japan-ASEAN-Oceanian Student & Youth Exchange Program. At the ceremony, with the presence of H.E. Mr. Guterres, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, three movies filmed by Timorese students were previewed, and the representatives of respective group expressed their aspirations to the upcoming visits. Participants of both groups are expected to experience Japanese culture, through school visits and home stay, and interact with Japanese and other Asian youth.

The Embassy of Japan held the reporting session for the participants of the Youth Exchange Program (“JENESYS 2.0”). The students spent 10 eye-opening days of experiencing cutting-edge Japanese pop culture. They shared their experiences based on their group (Fashion, Animation and Entertainment), their images of Japan before and after their stay, and what they want to reflect onto their daily life from Japanese culture. Additionally, they addressed their action plans to introduce what they learned in Japan to their friends and community.

On September 20, the Government of Timor-Leste held a handover ceremony of “Oecusse Port Urgent Rehabilitation Project” in Pante Macassar Sub-District, Oecusse District. The Government of Japan had decided a grant and worked for the rehabilitation project consisted of the contraction of a new jetty, passenger terminal, and cargo storage. H.E. Mr. Xanana Gusmao, Prime Minister, H.E. Dr. Ximenes, President of the Court of Appeal, H.E. Mr. da Costa, 2nd Vice President of the National Parliament, H.E. On September 16, the signing ceremony of the bilateral agreement concerning capacity development of the F-FDTL was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor-Leste.With this agreement, the technical cooperation of car maintenance skills and techniques will be conducted for the F-FDTL in the expectation of enhancing its capabilities in the fields of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
