1. On December 17, 2012, the Government of Japan held a signing ceremony at the Embassy of Japan for Japan’s Grant Contract with SHARE, a Japanese NGO. The Government of Japan will provide US$351,987 dollars for the “The Health Education Promotion Project in the Elementary Education in the Districts of Ermera and Dili” under the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects, which is a financial assistance scheme to support Japanese NGOs to meet the diverse needs of the people of Timor-Leste. H.E. Ms. Natalia de Araujo Soares, Vice Minister of Health for Ethics and Services and H.E. Ms. Dulce de Jesus Soares, Vice Minister of Education attended the ceremony.
2. Since 1999, SHARE has been carrying out various grass-roots projects related to health sector in close cooperation with the local community. It had implemented health education promotion project in Ermera District from 2009 to 2012 under the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects. Through the Grant Contracts, SHARE will expand its health programs to the students in Dili District and strengthen the cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education to develop health education materials for teachers and students.
3. This project will contribute to Capacity Development of Government and Public Sector which is one of Japan’s priority areas of assistance to Timor-Leste.
