The Government of Japan dispatched Mr. Joe Nakano, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, as Ambassador on Special Mission to attend the 10th Anniversary Ceremony of the Restoration of Independence of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste as well as the Inauguration Ceremony of the new President of the Republic. During his visit to Timor-Leste (May 19-20), Mr. Nakano paid courtesy calls on the newly elected President Taur Matan Ruak, Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão and Foreign Minister Zacarias Albano da Costa. He also attended a welcome dinner hosted by Timor-Leste-Japan Parliamentary Friendship League and had opportunities to have informal talks with VIPs who came from various countries and international organizations to attend the Ceremonies. Mr. Nakano visited, Bemos-Dili Water Purification Plant, one of Japanese ODA project sites, as well.
