On November 15th, the Embassy of Japan and the Salesian Sisters jointly held an inauguration ceremony of “The Project for Renovation of Orphanage Dormitory in Baucau District” in Venilale Sub-district, Baucau District. The Government of Japan provided US$67,664 for this project under the Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects(GGP).
The orphanage dormitory has been managed by the Salesian Sisters since 1988. Salesian Sisters devote themselves to supporting 120 female students who lost their parents during the crisis under the Indonesian occupation. Sisters were concerned about the difficulties in maintaining dormitory’s sanitary facility and the risk of the landslide especially during the rainy season. By implementing this project, the orphanage dormitory is now renovated and the female students can study and live in a safe and sanitation environment.
