October, 5th 2012

On October 5th, NGO-YACT, in close cooperation with the Embassy of Japan, inaugurated the Solar Panel Pump Water System in Oesilo, Oecusse District. H.E.Mr. Yoshitaka Hanada, Ambassador of Japan to Timor-Leste, Director of NGO Y-ACT and its staff members, representatives of local communities and government authorities concerned attended this inauguration ceremony to celebrate the completion of “the Project for the Installation of Solar Panel Pump Water System in Oesilo, Oecusse District”.

The Government of Japan provided US$97,643 for this project under the Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects(GGP).

NGO Y-ACT, recipient of the Japanese grant, has constructed the solar panel pump system at Bobometo village. The people of Bobometo village have long dreamed of having access to clean and safe water and getting freed from the water-related diseases. Especially in the dry season, they had to walk to the water source very far from the community.

This project is expected to provide sufficient clean water for the community in Bobometo village, contributing to release the villagers from the heavy burden of collecting water and to prevent the water-related diseases.
