Press ReleaseSigning Ceremony of Japan’s Grant Aid for the Economic and Social Development Program to the Guido Valadares National Hospital
On 31 May 2017, the signing ceremony of Japan’s Grant Aid for the Economic and Social Development Program to the Guido Valadares National Hospital in Dili was held in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MOFAC). The ceremony was organized by the MOFAC and attended by H.E. Mr. Hernani Filomena Coelho da Silva, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mr. Eiji Yamamoto, Ambassador of Japan to Timor-Leste and representatives from the relevant Ministries and the Guido Valadares National Hospital.
The Government of Japan will provide the Guido Valadares National Hospital in Dili with a variety of medical equipment amounting to 200 million yen (approximately USD 1.83 million). This grant aid aims to improve healthcare service in the Hospital by enabling them to deliver better medical service, particularly for patients in need for emergency or obstetrics and gynaecology service with the grant equipment such as a digital X-ray machine. The grant aid is also aligned with the healthcare policy “By 2030, Timor-Leste will have a healthier population as a result of comprehensive, high quality health services accessible to all Timorese people” stipulated in the Strategic Development Plan, and the Sustainable Development Goal No.3 “Good Health and Well-being” of the United Nations.
The Government of Japan will continue to support efforts by the Government of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste in the area of healthcare.
